How would I ship electronics to the Philippines without worrying about theft?
I used to work at _______ that ships balikbayan boxes to the Philippines. I wouldn't really trust them when it came to shipping electronics because of theft. Especially when Philippines customs checks the packages. Does anyone know if Fed ex or UPS would be a safe alternative?

Definitely FedEx and UPS are safer alternatives. These are global shipping companies with many years of experience and with a solid reputation to uphold. It might cost you more but peace of mind does have its price.
Paid more, sleep well. no worries, no loses and fast mean value . go for UPS/FED. save total cost, home collection and door step delivery, what more you want ?
Have you tried http://www.Forexworld.com ? They will send you back picture whoever receive the balikbayan box with signed receipt. Fedex and UPS are reliable if you’re willing to pay that much. Good luck!
well… dude… I wouldn’t think about theft once you put your electronic device securely into a private carriers box. What I would rather worry about is the compatibility of the device to the standard of the Philippines. Electricity here is quite a mess… they took the 220Volts from Europe but the 60Hertz from the States. Kinda strange combination, to think that he standard is 220/50 or 110/60… I brought a digital radio clock from Germany and here in The Philippines it ran about 20%faster so I kinda woke up in the middle of the night for a few times.
Suggest you crate it rather than use a balikbayan box…
Confirmed “lost” in ** Fed Ex ** shipped package:
(1) Duracell battery for Canon Powershot SD750. Retail value: US$35.00
(1) Women’s bracelet watch. Retail value: US$40.00
This may not be an issue with Fed Ex, but with Customs, which is authorized to open packages. I concede that the battery may be an item not allowed for import into Philippines (Fed Ex has a list per country, but batteries were ** not ** on the list as I recall!), certainly the watch could not be considered contraband.
I doubt, then, that UPS is immune from sticky Customs fingers. While Forex will take a Polaroid of the recipient with the balikbayan box, this is just for confirmation of receipt of the box. Customs may go through it as well.
Is no one safe?
The sad state of affairs, mga bayan.
[I have used Fed Ex and Forex. I would have no choice but to use them again. The problem is not with them. Both provide good service that I trust. As for Customs Bureau of the Phils., that's another story.]
