How hard is to become an electronics technician in the navy?

I want to become one. Do they usually give you your first choice? Is electronics technician filled up?

What can an Electronics Technician cross train to a different kind of occupation that has a brighter future?

I am getting very fed up as a long time Electronics Technician that can never find a good high paying job, so now I want to know what other areas can I cross train too. There is no respect for electronic repair techs anymore. Sucks! Thanks.
